Open House

Celebrate with us! / 11/10/2018 - 11/15/2018

During our five-days' Open House event, contemporary art meets street food, while Jewish culture meets the music of the future: Celebrate with us our 30th anniversary on the construction site of the new Jewish Museum.

Welcome to the construction site!

The Jewish Museum is celebrating its 30th anniversary this autumn. From 10 to 15 November 2018, we are opening the doors to our museum construction site and invite our visitors to take a peek behind the curtains of our museum ‘in the making’ – six days of celebrating and sharing food and dialogue with us.

Contemporary art in historical rooms

During this time, we are showing a temporary contemporary art exhibition while we allow visitors to experience the architecture of the new building. A varied programme with films, concerts, performances and talks with artists rounds off the anniversary week. Reflections on roots and emigration run throughout the programme as a common thread. For instance, in the rooms of the Rothschild Palace, in addition to a work by Israel artist Nir Alon, we will display sculptures by Ilana Salama Ortar and video works by Dana Levy, artists whose projects deal with transition, migration, remembrance and identity.

Participation is welcome!

There will be hands-on object displays. Visitors themselves will determine how things are going to turn out. Our Open House will feature our LAB interactive displays that let visitors meet the curators of the first temporary exhibition planned,  ‘Juden in Europa: 1945-1950’ (Jews in Europe: 1945-1950), give their input on the exhibition’s themes, learn about special histories of Jewish personalities and immortalise themselves on our interactive map.

30 years Jewish Museum

Review, insight, outlook! Part of the Open House programme features among other things a full-day symposium on 30 years of Jewish museology. We will take a look back at the creation of the museum in 1988, reflect on Jewish museum developments over the last 30 years and discuss what trends are emerging for the different museums and what future museum tasks will consist of.

We are opening our doors to the music of the future: come celebrate 30 years of the Jewish Museum Frankfurt with us!
