The Jewish Museum Frankfurt’s exhibition catalogue "Back into the Light. Four Women Artists – Their Works. Their Paths" is dedicated to four rediscovered artists.
Erna Pinner (1890–1987), Rosy Lilienfeld (1896–1942), Amalie Seckbach (1870–1944) and Ruth Cahn (1875–1966) all influenced the artistic life of Frankfurt am Main in the 1920s and gained a reputation far beyond their home region. Not only did the Nazi regime put an end to the cosmopolitan lifestyle they cultivated, but it also threatened their works and lives.
In this richly illustrated catalogue, contributions by acclaimed art historians address and explore the oeuvres of these four Frankfurt artists. The essays are accompanied by many images of the artists’ works, as well as previously unpublished documents and letters. From a cultural studies perspective, international experts also discuss the diverse historical contexts of the lives and fates of these four women artists.
